ONTARIO CATTLEMEN'S ADVISORY COUNCIL The O.C.A. has a 12 member board of Directors and each County sends one representative as an Advisor to the Board. Three meetings annually bring us together to be updated on O.C.A. activities events and concerns and bringing regional issues forward. It is a diverse and effective group of Beef Farmers presenting a wide range of opinions to the Board. NOTE. You are a member of the O.C.A. when you pay check-off. and to represent your County at the Annual General Meeting as a Delegate or Advisory Councilor, you must have paid check-off by Aug. 3st. of the previous year and actively own cattle. In Cobourg we were updated on the current status of the organization and the upcoming A.G.M. in Toronto on Feb 21 and 22, 2007. Kim Sytsma's term as our Cow-Calf Director on the Board is up and she has been nominated for a further three year term. Kim has worked diligently for our sector. Terms are also up for a Feedlot Director and a Director at large. Please contact one of us if you are interested or wish to serve on a committee. The Grenville Cattlemen's A.G.M. will be held at the Prescott Golf and Country Club for Brunch followed by the meeting on Jan 2st., 2007. Please show your support and attend. A Newsletter will be circulated in early Jan. With details and reports of our 2006 activities. We were updated on the status of "On Trace" the developing program to I.D. Livestock, farm premises, and movement tracking of animals. This becomes very important in the case of an animal disease outbreak and has many other benefit, including promoting the safety of our product here and to our offshore customers. There is a new and simplified Verified Beef Manual written by Dr. Rob Trembley. More Courses are being offered, contact one of us and arrangements can be made with Dan Ferguson. The New Manuals can be picked up at one of these courses. The Verified Beef Course completed by Dec 2007 is one of the requirements to qualify you for the M.A.P. ( Market Access Program ) . Age Verification of your 2006 calves and your Vet 's signature that your calves have been vaccinated, are the other two requirements. This will qualify you for a credit to be redeemed when you purchase M.A.P. tags for the 2007 calves. Please call Charlene Renkema at 613- 275-2188 for details. Chris Attema updated us on the status of the CLEAN WAFER ACT,BILL 43. Third reading has passed on this bill.
