Annual Picnic and Farm Tour
Despite the hot weather Grenville Cattlemen's Asso. held their Annual Picnic and Farm Tour on Aug. 5, 2001.
This year we visited the farm of John and Cathy Willoughby. President Doug Cook started things off by introducing the Willoughby's and Cathy went ahead and filled us in on what they were trying to achieve on their farm. John has spent a lot of time remodling barn yards and penning aread.
Scott Banks took us on a tour of the test forage plots that the Willoughby's have planted this year and answered several questions. After touring the test plots Dr. Jack Van Der Byle spoke to us on how he and his brothers handle and treat the 250 - 500 stockers that they purchase every year. There was extra attention on their vacination program. Kim Sytsma spoke for a few minutes on what has been happening at O.C.A. with extra attention to Nutrient Managment The wind up to the afternoon was a potluck dinner and a beef barbeque. We cooked up 40 lbs. of beef supplied by the Old Butcher Shop in Brockville. As usual the women have out done themselves with all the dishes and desserts. Everyone enjoyed themselves.
